The superintendent of a troubled New York school district has resigned from his post.
Officials announced this week that East Ramapo School District Superintendent Joel Klein is set to retire on Oct. 31.
The Rockland County district is about 30 miles north of New York City. It’s controlled by Orthodox Jews who send their children to private religious schools. The school district of about 8,000 students is largely black and Latino.
Officials say Klein, who has been superintendent for about five years, would be entitled to about $80,000 as part of the separation agreement.
The move comes after a group of experts— led by a former New York City public schools chancellor —were appointed by the state in August to offer guidance to district leaders.

This is misleading as the school district is made up of approximately 32,000, students of which about 24,000 attend private and 8,000 are in the public schools.
