Work to construct smart fences around Gaza border communities following Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014. Defense Ministry officials are now reporting smart security fences have since been construction around 12 communities as part of the NIS 30 million program.

The program includes tens of kilometers of smart fences that contain advanced detection technology for communities including Sufah, Holot, Nir Am, Nir Ohz, Ein HaShloshah, Kissufim, Alumim, Saad, Kfar Aza, Miflasim, and Nir Am. Work is scheduled for completion in the coming months in Karmiya and Yad Mordechai.

The experts explain the fence provides a physical barrier in addition to the technological component providing an alert when anyone touches or tries to scale the barrier.
