Israeli Arabs on Tuesday night the eve of 24 Tishrei held a stormy unlawful protest in Jaffa. At some point protesters refused to comply with police, who instructed them to disperse as the gathering was illegal and the approximately 1,000 participants became violent, throwing stones at police and blocking vehicular routes. A total of five policemen were treated and released from Ichilov Hospital as a result of being hit by rocks and bottles.

In a statement released to the media by the spokesman for the Yiftach District of Israel Police, it is explained the protest to show solidarity with the events surrounding al-Aqsa Mosque was illegal and no one filed a request for a permit. Police stress that despite the fact a permit was not requested, the event was permitted towards exhibiting an understanding for one’s right to protest. However at some point they became unruly and tried blocking streets and masked persons hurled rocks at police.
