It was a stormy session of the Knesset Finance Committee on Monday, 8 Tishrei as one of the items on the agenda was monthly child allowance payments.
According to Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon’s plan, parents will only receive NIS 120 a month for a child and the additional NIS 50 will be placed in an account to be released to the child when s/he turns 21. MK Menachem Eliezer Moses sharply criticized party member Health Minister Yaakov Litzman for approving and backing the modified child allowance plan. Moses is among those who do not trust what will happen to the money in the future, explaining that a future government may take the NIS 50 monthly placed in long term accounts and allocate it elsewhere. Moses exclaimed “Better a bird in the hand than two in the bush”, urging Litzman not to back the Kahlon formula for monthly child allowance payments.
