In keeping with a minhag that dates back to decades, Magen David Adom will on erev Yom Kippur hold a blood drive in Zichron Yaakov.
On Tuesday, erev Yom Kippur, the annual blood drive will be held and organizers report this is the 20th year. A second blood drive is held in Zichron Yaakov annually, on Memorial Day. Organizers call on the tzibur to donate a unit of blood, pointing out that it is an act of chessed that is most appropriate during Tishrei.
The blood drive will be held from 8:00am to 2:00pm in a number of locations including on the ‘Midrachov’ pedestrian mall. In addition, there will be a mobile blood unit in the HaShmura neighborhood on Derech Sarah Street, corner of HaNadiv. MDA reminds citizens that anyone donating a unit of blood is automatically insured should s/he require blood in the coming year as well as first line relations.
In the 5775 blood drive they received 262 units of blood from 172 men and 90 women.

Without even getting into the issue of bloodletting on Erev Yom Tov, but how can one donate blood before a Tzom, when it is always so strongly reinforced at blood drives, to drink extra fluids for at least 2-3 days after donating blood.
