Authorities say one person has died and others are injured after violence broke out in the run-up to New York City’s West Indian Day Parade.
Police say the incidents occurred early Monday in Brooklyn.
A 24-year-old man died at a hospital after he was stabbed in the torso at around 2 a.m. in the Grand Army Plaza area. Another man, who’s 21, was in stable condition with a gunshot wound.
Police say a 43-year-old man was shot and critically wounded around 3:30 a.m. The governor’s office said that victim works for the Empire State Development Corporation.
Police had extra officers on hand as overnight parties and a separate march drew crowds hours before the start of the big parade.
