Degel Rabbonim Distance Themselves from Gafne’s Attack Against Slonim

gafniHaGaon HaRav Yosef Efrati denies the accuracy of some of the statements made by MK Moshe Gafne, including his quoting Rav Elyashiv ZT”L speaking out against Slonim during the Emanuel affair. Both Hamodia and HaMevaser have come out harshly against Gafne’s words and his chutzpadik remarks against the rebbe and the chassidus. Gafne alleged that Slonim’s battle regarding the schools in Emanuel was all about money and not ideology. Gafne added that Rav Elyashiv ZT”L was not pleased with the large protest but gave in at the end because of the ruling of the late Supreme Court Justice Edmond Levy.

Degel Hatorah MK Moshe Gafne spent quite a bit of time releasing angry statements and accusations against Slonim Chassidim and the Rebbe Shlita after the rebbe ordered opening a new school, a high school exclusive for girls of the chassidus.

Gafne shouted the new school in Betar Illit is discriminatory and “There is no reason the girls cannot continue learning with the litvish girls”. He lashed out against Slonim in the media, adding to the coverage of reported discrimination in the chareidi sector, throwing Slonim into the heart of the media frenzy in frum schools.

Despite Rav Efrati’s comments, others insist Gafne’s quotes regarding Rav Elyashiv’s position are accurate, albeit painful.

  2. EVERONE KNOWS THAT THE SLONIMER REBBE IS A GREAT TZADIK AND HIS INTENTIONS ARE PURE. HE INSTRUCTED HIS CHASIDIM AS HE ALWAYS DOES TO REMAIN ABOVE THE FRAY AND NOT RESPOND TO ANY PROVOCATIONS. WHILE THE FACTS ARE NOT PUBLIC THIS KIND OF SLANDER BY PUBLIC OFFICIALS ONLY ADDS PARRAFIN TO THE FIRE OF MACHLOKOS AND PIRUD.
