MK Menachem Eliezer Moses, who serves as the chairman of the Yahadut Hatorah faction in Knesset, turned to Education Minister Naftali Bennett on Wednesday, 18 Elul, asking to include the many Chinuch Atzmai schools that are ‘recognized’ but not officially part of the public school system in his plan to make schools accessible to the disabled and persons with special needs.
In his letter to the minister Moses explained that a special session of the Knesset Education Committee held earlier in the week during which a new plan was revealed, a plan to make public schools accessible to the disabled, allocating NIS 945 million for the project. This includes accessible annual trips, the construction of acoustic classrooms, elevators, and restrooms that are accessible to the disabled community. The cost of the plan in the coming year is NIS 135 million.
Moses praised the program and asked Bennett to include the schools in the chareidi education system as well to avoid discriminating between one sector and another. Moses added the program “is a huge chessed demanded by reality”, stating the implementation of the program will permit many of the limited students join the mainstream schools.
