A great grandson of the Tosher Rebbe ZT”L was arrested on Wednesday night the eve of 19 Elul at Ben-Gurion International Airport for not reporting for military service. He was traveling with family members heading to Canada to meet with the new Rebbe Shlita.
The 19-year-old was arrested after his passport was checked by border control as he was leaving the airport for his flight to N. America. It was explained to him that he is listed AWOL (Absent without Official Leave) from the IDF for failing to report for the draft. The family explained they were traveling to be with the rebbe for Rosh Hashanah, but military police arrested him and transported him to a military prison. The family members boarded their flight on schedule.
Chareidi Members of Knesset from Yahadut Hatorah are working to have the young man released.
Kikar Shabbos News adds that family members who reside in Canada have been in contact with Canadian officials, seeking their assistance to obtain the release of the young man who is also a Canadian citizen.
