After 37 years, a recalcitrant wife has accepted a ‘get’ from her husband. This brought an end to the longest divorce case on record in the State of Israel. Chief Rabbi Dovid Lau Shlita headed the beis din that persuaded the wife to accept the ‘get’.
The case was opened in 1978 and has been regarded by the various rabbonim who dealt with it as one of the more difficult divorces. As the husband and wife were unable to reach agreement, she refused to accept a ‘get’. After an appeal was filed and the case reached the Chief Rabbinate Supreme Beis Din, the beis din headed by Rav Lau succeeded in persuading the woman to accept the ‘get’.
The Chief Rabbinate will not release additional details towards safeguarding the privacy of those involved, but adds no threats were issued as the ‘get’ was achieved by hours of talking and reaching an understanding.
The beis din headed by Rav Lau is made of experts who are viewed as particularly successful in solving even the most difficult cases. They convene once weekly for this very purpose.

after 37 years and that is a success??? sorry, dismal failure.
He should have gotten a heter meah rabbonim 36 years ago and remarried.
Or perhaps he did exactly that. And now he is finally divorcing the first of his two wives.
Why did the husband care? He can marry another woman.
We aren’t privy to the details but I’ll bet the issues were not nearly as important as the 37 yrs were. What a shame so much time lost fighting.
The real news here is the tireless work of Rav Lau and his beth din who labor to close many of the difficult and outstanding cases thus allowing men and women to move on with thirlives.
Kudos to the rabbis in Israel who finally worked this out.
