The teachers union representing teachers above elementary school is threatening to strike the opening of the school year as it does almost every year before the first day of school. The nation’s public school system begins on Tuesday, September 1, 2015.
Union officials on Monday, 16 Elul, announced that due to serious issues that will impact both students and teachers, it is left without an alternative and it may launch a strike after having declared a work dispute earlier. Union officials insist if a strike is launched it is of course for the betterment of the students and school system, adding to date, all negotiations have failed.
Last week, tens of Arab municipality heads who convened in Sakhnin announced they will not permit opening schools in their sectors due to serious deficiencies. They decry the inequality the Arab sector suffers. They added that if they strike it will be open-ended.
