Jerusalem Chief Rabbi Stern on the Appointment of Dayanim


sternJerusalem Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi HaGaon HaRav Aryeh Stern Shlita met with activists affiliated with the Bayit Yehudi party and expressed his support for the appointment of a Sephardi dayan to the Chief Rabbinate Supreme Beis Din. “There is no doubt times demand this, the representation of all sectors on the beis din” the rav stated.

The meeting was hosted in the rav’s office. Maor Tzemach and David Atias asked the rav during their meeting how he feels about the appointment of a Sephardi dayan to the High Beis Din, to which he stated current realities demand such an appointment. The rav added that back in the time when he was in Merkaz HaRav he worked to advance Sephardi talmidim, stating “It would be very sad if dati leumi Sephardi dayanim are not among those appointed to the Chief Rabbinate Supreme Beis Din”.
