Tens of thousands of people lost power in Sullivan County early Friday morning.
According to the NYSEG website, more than 40,000 customers were without power.
The outage occurred around 3:00AM, just after a heavy rain storm tore through the area. Speculation is that the outage is weather related.
By 4:40AM, power was slowly being restored in many areas.
The Sullivan County Sheriff Department tell YWN that deputies have been placed around the county at major intersections. They are reminding drivers to use caution when proceeding through intersections.
Catskill Regional Medical Center was operating on backup generators.
Power is expected to be restored across the county shortly.
