Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) released the following statement on the news that former New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott has been appointed as Monitor for the East Ramapo Central School District:
“I have known Dennis Walcott for many years. He is an extremely fair individual and his appointment is a positive development. After reaching out to the Jewish community and hearing how they are cautiously optimistic with these developments, I believe this is a turning point for everyone going forward. The fact that the board was involved and part of the discussion in Dennis being appointed is a very positive step. I am confident that a fair and equitable resolution for both sides in East Ramapo will be realized with his involvement.”
“I have been involved in the contentious debate of East Ramapo from the very beginning, speaking out on the floor of the Assembly and attending public hearings. Our goal has always been to bring this community together. This is what we have been working towards. I look forward to Dennis and the board working together to achieve positive results.”
