Police gathered intelligence information leading to arrests in an operation targeting Jewish drivers parking their cars on what is called “Tzir Falafel” in Silwan near Dung Gate.

The area in question is designated for public parking. When Jewish drivers would arrive they would be told that for a certain fee they would watch over the vehicle to make sure nothing happens to it. Arabs would also intimidate drivers into paying them to leave their car when in fact, the parking should not entail a fee.

Detectives from the Kedem district in an undercover operation parked cars to see exactly who is involved in the operation. When detectives identified themselves suspects fled the scene and they chased after them. Two Silwan residents, a 20-year-old and a 17-year-old are in custody.
