MK Shai Piron, who joined the Yesh Atid party in 2012 and served as the Minister of Education in the previous Knesset, is planning to step down from the current 20th Knesset. He is going to be replaced by MK Elazar Stern, who is a member of Yesh Atid.
Stern was a member of The Movement party headed by MK Tzipi Livni in the last Knesset but when she opted to join ranks with the Zionist Camp (Labor) in this Knesset, Stern decided to break away and join the ranks of Yesh Atid. Stern was the leading force in the previous Knesset to introduce and push bills promoting reforms in the state’s religious services, reforms that are not in line with the position of Gedolei Yisrael Shlita.
According to report, Piron is holding many meetings to wrap up affairs and determine when he is going to step down, a move that is expected to take place in the near future.
