Two-Year-Old Found Alone in Netanya Park Close to Midnight, Alone

mishtA two-year-old boy was found asleep in a public park in Netanya on Wednesday, 20 Menachem Av. Police were summoned and they in turn called social services as the search for the boy’s parents began. The call came in to police close to midnight.

It is reported that a chareidi family from Jerusalem with ten children was vacationing in Netanya and they went to the beach they split up, with each parent taking five children. No one came looking for the child during the remainder of the night.

Netanya Police Chief Doron Turgeman said “It is incomprehensible that a toddler was found alone at night. We are making efforts to locate the family. I ask anyone who can identify the child to contact Netanya police or call the 100 number”.

About 11 hours after the child was detected in the park, at 11:00 AM Thursday morning, police received a call from the parents, who explained their toddler son is missing. The police dispatcher passed the information to Netanya police, and police got in contact with the family.

Police then learned the family from Jerusalem was vacationing in the city. They split up at night and went swimming. They woke up Thursday morning, not too long before calling, realizing the toddler was missing from the home.

Police detained mom and dad for questioning realizing neither was aware their son was missing for over 11 hours. Social services is involved in the case as well.

  1. Not to justify what had happened. But anyone who doesn’t have 11 children (or at least 10) has NO RIGHT to do the questioning or judgement regarding this unfortunate incident. And if they say they shouldn’t have so many, it’s an old question that has an old answer – line up the children and ask “which one of them should have not been born?”

  2. you are correct, jews should never be questioning or judging.
Separate from that i would say don’t ever, ever make leniencies for not keeping children safe. I don’t care how many kids someone has, don’t write this off as being a product of such a thing. Maybe they have other things going on in their lives that have made them less diligent, but “having too many kids” doesn’t make someone forget to keep them safe.

  3. “… they split up, with each parent taking 5 children.” Are they mathematically challenged? 5 + 5 = 10! But they have 11 children! No wonder the 2 year old went missing! He was bichlal not accounted for.

Stupid comment. If they can’t care for 10 children they shouldn’t have them. & regarding your question the answer is obviously the last one or which ever one put them the top.

  5. tzvitzvi: Sorry, people can questions the parent’s judgement and their competence. It doesn’t matter how many children someone has. A toddler is always taken care of. The child has to be fed, changed and put to sleep. Even with older kids around, a mother, at the very least checks up on the little ones. We are talking about 11 hours here, not 10 minutes.

This is pure negligence. If it were an older child, you would have a point.

“line up the children and ask “which one of them should have not been born?” –

This is not the issue. People should have as many as they want, just be responsible.

  6. The child should have been noticed to be missing way before the car left the parking lot because his car seat was empty! Then again these are religious families that don’t give a damn about the law or safety! If I would have had 10 children, I would surely notice in a heartbeat someone is missing. This is beyond negligence. These parents don’t deserve to have custody over any child.
