MDA: Heatwave Results in Sharp Increase in Calls


mdaMagen David Adom emergency medical service officials report that the ongoing nationwide heatwave has resulted in a sharp increase in calls for medical assistance, up tens of percent. MDA reported on Sunday, 17 Menachem Av, 80 people were treated for fainting, 70 from general weakness and 14 others for various stages of dehydration.

With forecasters predicted temperatures over 100 F for the coming days, MDA continues to urge the public to take additional cautions in line with the harsh temperatures and strong sun condition. Those people who must be outdoors are urged to drink copious amounts of water, stressing one must drink constantly and one should not wait until one is thirsty.

MDA Chief Eli Bin adds ambulance teams continue to remain on call nationwide to meet the increased demand for care during these extremely hot days. He reminds the elderly and persons with chronic cardiac and other illnesses impacted by the weather to try to remain indoors, in an air conditioned environment as well as to drink more water than usual.

  1. To the staff: I strongly request that you give all temperatures in both F and C for the benefit of those of us in EY who’ve become more used to C temperatures. IMHO you can round off the decimals to whole numbers, the temperatures aren’t so precise anyway.
