Police say a male has been shot in the chest near the epicenter of unrest in west Baltimore in April.
Police tweeted that the shooting call on North Avenue was dispatched at 10:53 a.m. Monday and detectives are investigating. No other details were released.
An hour later, the scene at Pennsylvania and North avenues, where a drugstore burned during the unrest, was typical for midday on a weekday, with people hanging out. There were evidence markers in front of one rowhome.
Rioting and looting broke out in the area after the funeral of Freddie Gray, a black man who suffered a fatal spinal cord injury in police custody.
Fire department spokesman Samuel Johnson says the victim was taken to a hospital, but he didn’t know how badly he was injured.
