A statistic that has many dati leumi rabbonim feeling proud shows 85% of hesder yeshiva talmidim enter IDF combat units. Hundreds of hesder talmidim will be heading for an induction center next month.
A number of hesder soldiers have entered the current induction to the Kfir Brigade, followed by engineering, armored corps, Golani, field intelligence, artillery and Nachal.
Interestingly, hesder a number of years ago made a breakthrough, sending talmidim to the navy, which is known to be the most secular branch of the IDF. The deal compels a minimum of two talmidim serving together to avoid ever having a “Beinish” (Bnei Yeshiva) serving alone. They have joined the Dabur navy patrol boats and to date, the program has been a success as there is not a frum influence in the navy, albeit minimal.

I am proud to say that my son is a Hesdernik, or Beinish, who has served with distinction in the navy for the past year and a half. He and his comrades have been involved in many naval operations to protect the country. He served during last years Tzuk Eitan, and recently received his pin for that campaign, in addition to his pin as a fighter on the Dabbur, patrol boat. His commander is a frum person and always makes sure that kashrus is held to highest standards including shmeta lachumra and especially on Pesach. Shabbos is observed in the best way possible, including Shabbos meals , kiddish, and even havdalah when they are out at sea, over the year he has had many other beinishim on board.
“A statistic that has many dati leumi rabbonim feeling proud …”
And what do the rabbonim who express authentic da’as Torah feel?
Very nice of them… and afterward they a being stabbed in the back by the state of Israel they so dearly love by dismantling settlements in a most brutal way…
