NYC Mayor De Blasio Says No To Uber’s Call To Debate

debNew York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is rejecting Uber’s call to have a live debate about their differences.

The ride-hailing service invited de Blasio on Monday to participate in a live-streamed conversation about the company’s future in New York. The de Blasio administration is trying to slow down Uber’s rapid expansion.

De Blasio declined the invitation, saying he doesn’t debate private corporations. He added that, in his words, “Uber is a multibillion-dollar corporation, and they’re acting like one.”

His administration supports a proposal to cap Uber’s growth for a year while its impact is studied. The City Council is expected to weigh the proposal this week.

San Francisco-based Uber has rejected all attempts to slow its growth. It says de Blasio is trying to stifle free enterprise and innovation.

  1. de Blasion is a communist attempting to stifle competition in order to pay back the campaign bribes his friends in the taxi industry showered him with. This is his payback by eliminating their competitive threat.

  2. A liberal communist. Of course he doesn’t want to debate he’ll sound like an idiot. Uber isn’t doing anything illegal they should be allowed to do what they’re doing

  3. If Uber is allowed, at least in Manhattan, its the end of the infamous “medallion” system by which many drivers have invested hugh sums of money, and which generates significant campaign contributions.

  4. DiBlasio and his administration have their figures so wrong. First of all , the majority of uber partners are members of other black car companies as well. It’s like taking a census and counting the same person more than once. I speak out of experience as I myself am a Uber partner as well as with another company. Also, DiBlasio is just jealous that a company is as successful as uber is in only 4+ years. Nobody likes a Goliath.

  5. “many drivers have invested hugh sums of money”

The cost of a Yellow Cab Medallion is as high as the cost of a home! Where else in the world is this the case?

  6. “Good old fashioned communism”

Good old fashioned stupid comment. Communism would expropriate all the Yellow Cabs and Livery Cabs and make the drivers government employees.

I’m not defending De Blasio’s attempt to stifle competition, but this isn’t Communism.
