Gabbaim of Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto, 42, and people close to the “Mekubal” are calling on Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein to permit the rabbi to leave the country, explaining he must undergo medical treatments abroad. The rabbi cannot leave the country without Weinstein’s permission do to the legal proceedings against him. The rav’s gabbaim warn Weinstein that if anything happens to him as a result of his inability to receive the necessary medical care, he, Weinstein, will be held responsible. They quote the rabbi’s doctor explaining that in his case, the treatments they seek are literally a matter of life and death.
The atmosphere in the rav’s camp is one of skepticism as they feel Weinstein will not permit Rabbi Pinto to leave Israel.
The rav’s gabbaim request that the tzibur continue being mispallel for Yoshiyahu Yosef ben Zohari bsoch sha’ar cholei yisrael.

All lifesaving treatments are available in Israel, thank G-d. My kabalistic powers tell me that the good rabbi has other, less than holy reasons for fleeing Israel.

I don’t understand why some people are not bothered that Yidden are being prosecuted in secular courts.
Pidyan shvuim is one of the biggest mitzva we have yet people have become so desensitized that not only are they not doing something about it, but they joke and are content about it ( and some time defend it)

Mr. Pinto stated that should he be found guilty of bribery he will shave off his beard and cease to be a rabbi. Well, he has since entered a plea bargain and has been convicted of bribery by his own admission. So perhaps the time has come to stop calling him ‘Rabbi’ and ‘Mekubal’.
