Thousands of police are stationed around eastern portions of Yerushalayim and the Old City as the Muslim community prepares to celebrate el-Khadir. The celebration follows the 26 days of Ramadan and its daily fast.
Jerusalem police commanders report preparations have been completed for the evening’s events, Monday night 26 Tammuz. Jerusalem Police Chief Moshe Edri confirms his troops are out in force and they stand ready to maintain law and order. The troops will remain in position throughout the night with a focus on the Old City. Police emphasize they will act swiftly and sternly against anyone trying to disturb the peace.
Heavy traffic is to be expected in certain area. Therefore, police advise motorists to distance themselves from the Old City and to remain vigilant to instructions from police. Notifications will also be made through the media. Residents of the Old City will be permitted to enter via the Jaffa Gate and mispallalim heading to the Kosel are urged to use public transportation.
The following road closures are in effect until 03:00 on Tuesday, 27 Tammuz. Sultan Suleiman Street, Wadi Joz, Derech Yericho, Shmuel Ben-Ada, Kvish HaOpel, Derech Shechem, Salah a-Din, Omer Ben-Alias.
In addition; Bar-Lev Blvd. from Kellerman Jct. towards the southern city, Derech Hebron from Navon Junction to the northern city, Tzanchanim Street, Cheil Handassa Street, HaNevi’im Street from Yeshayahu towards E. Shlomo HaMelech Street, Agron Street and David Remez Street.
