Security officials believe the rocket launch earlier on erev Shabbos 16 Tammuz that set off sirens in the Eshkol Regional Council of southern Israel was from Sinai, not Gaza. Based on the reports of citizens seeing a rocket “flying over from Egypt” and other information gathered, it does appear the rocket originated in Sinai, not Gaza.
The system monitoring incoming rockets detected a rocket impacted in an open area. Soldiers in the IDF’s Southern Command searched open areas to find the rocket impact location.
The IDF is investigating to determine if the rocket launch was from Sinai or Gaza, apparently operating on the premise that it originated in Sinai. One possibility which is not being ruled out at this time is that the rocket was not an attack but spillover from the ongoing fighting in Sinai between Islamic organizations and the Egyptian military, which conducted aerial attacks earlier in the day.
As reported earlier, B’chasdei Hashem there were no fatalities or injuries in the rocket attack.
