The ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet), IDF and Israel Police in a joint effort uncovered another Hamas infrastructure in and around Shechem. The cell was working to strengthen Hamas’ infrastructure in PA (Palestinian Authority) autonomous areas. Some 40 terrorists and senior commanders were arrested, some having been imprisoned in Israel in the past. Israeli intelligence experts confirm ongoing Hamas efforts to increase its influence throughout PA autonomous areas.

During interrogation the suspects admitted Hamas is trying to renew itself in PA-controlled areas and Shechem serves as a major headquarters from the terrorist organization. They were actually building a serious infrastructure including officials in charge of various aspects of life such as finance, education and communications.

Shechem resident Hussam Badran, 49, is among the leaders taken into custody. They managed to transfer funds for their terrorist operations under the radar by purchasing gold in Jordan and then smuggling it into PA areas. They also used messengers and post office boxes to hide their operation.

During the arrest authorities confiscated cash, gold and valuables worth $4 million. A number of vehicles were confiscated as well.
