Police are investigating the events of a school trip which ended in the death of a 12-year-old student in a Chatzor HaGlilit pool on Tuesday, 6 Tammuz. As the group was dressed they realized he was missing. When they entered the pool area his body was seen at the bottom of the pool. The young boy was extricated and EMS responders began CPR and the child was transported to the hospital as resuscitation continued. Doctors at Ziff Hospital in Tzfas pronounced the child dead.
The child, Netanel Vanunu, a resident of Beit Shemesh, arrived in the separate pool with his class on their annual outing. From the pool they were planning to have a barbeque.
Ichud Hatzalah EMT Moshe Goldberg told the press “When I arrived the child was outside of the water in cardiac arrest. I was told the lifeguard pulled him out. Together with other responders we attempted to resuscitate him. When paramedics arrived they began advanced life support.
A MDA paramedic explained that he arrived in a short time after receiving the call and when they entered CPR was taking place on the victim on the ground near the pool. At some point they restored his pulse after they defibrillated him and then they began transport.
Magen David Adom spokesman Zaki Heller reports the call arrived at 21:10 to the dispatcher. Police report that a number of people involved with the pool and school trip have already been questioned in the case. The lifeguard was arrested. The school official in charge of the group was detained for questioning and released to house arrest.
The levaya was announced for 17:00 on Wednesday, 6 Tammuz, in the Beit Shemesh cemetery.

So Sad, our hearts go out to the parents,
such a young precious child!
may Hashem console the Family!
please bring the geula!
This young man reminds me of my son – his smile, wide eyes, kippah on the left. Maybe that’s why it grieves me more than other sad stories. It makes me appreciate what I have.
In this week’ parasha, Rashi says that the passing of tsaddikim is mechaper for us. Often during the week of Chukat tragedies occur. We should realize that this holy neshama took the pain for us, to be mechaper for us.
