The IDF on Tuesday evening the eve of 1 Rosh Chodesh Tammuz 5775 declared an area of NE Golan Heights a ‘closed military zone’. The ban from entering the area along the border to Syria was lifted a number of hours later.
Officials reported on Wednesday morning the ‘closed military zone’ was set into place to prevent members of the northern Druse community from heading to the border as they continue hold solidarity protests for their brethren being killed by al-Nusra fighters.

The Syrian Druze (and most of the Druze live in Syria) apparently want to be rescued by the Israelis. While this might seriously affect the balance of power for Israel (giving them a serious ally in Syria and Lebanon), it would draw Israel into the multi-sided Syrian Civil War. Given that Israeli Druze are strong supporters of the medinah, the Israelis will be under very strong pressure from the Israeli Druze to rescue their Syrian cousins.
