IDF Seeking to Bring in More Chareidim into the Military

idffClearly the IDF’s goal regarding the chareidi tzibur is to increase the number of chareidim entering the IDF. In recent months, several dozen chareidim have been inducted and trained as recruiting personnel in the hope they will be more successful in reaching out to the chareidi tzibur. A special course was designed to provide these individuals with the tools to persuade their fellow chareidi to enter the military. This marks the first time that the chareidim have taken a course tailored to the goal of increasing chareidi induction numbers.

While it remains to be seen if these chareidi recruiting officials will be sent out to chareidi communities, they will begin their service working in induction centers around the country.

Upon completion of the course a ceremony in the presence of IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkott was held in the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv. Also present was Givati Commander Colonel Ofir Winter, who is winding down his current assignment in the near future.

Winter explained to the graduates “You are doing very important work and the IDF does not wish to harm the yeshiva world. The chareidim make a significant contribution to the nation with combat service. The induction of chareidim who are not learning is important and critical to the nation. The establishment of the various options over recent months was done in conjunction with rabbonim and gedolim in the chareidi tzibur”.

  1. They could start by abolishing conscription. If the army is particpating in a war on yshivos, they can’t expect too many hareidim to enlist.

Then they could make it clear that officers who display anti-religious bias will be dismissed. When the US integrated Blacks into the army, officers who couldn’t support the policy were forced out.

  2. Can we all stop calling the IDF pathetic and antireligios? First of all, it is very easy to be religious in the army like being in nachal chariedi or hesder. Also, if you hate the IDF so much how about you just boycott the IDF and don’t visit anywhere that the IDF protects. Oh that’s crazy? Why? Because it’s convenient for you to take advantage of the IDF when you want and bash it when you want? Shameful.

  3. Which one of you three wil turn out the lights of the wonderful! galus.

Embrace the unfolding redemption, dont fight it.

The Israeli army is the most moral army in the world and what a zchut to be able to serve.

For those of you still living in lalaland nyc, monsey etc
some of your tax money goes to literally destroying jewish lives in the holy land and you will have to do a din vcheshbon on every penny.

The state is not perfect, the army is not perfect but Baruch Hashem its still miraculous and that my friends is true gratitude. For those of you who dont recognise the open miracles of 1948, 1967, 1973, 2015 etc etc – that my friends is Cefira

  4. #s 4 & 5-

You guys must be new here. For years, the majority of posters here have been anti-IDF and anti-Israel. A guy like Akuperma for example, sits by his computer all day and is almost always first in line to bash the State of Israel as being a state that seeks to abolish Torah and mitzvos. I have long wondered when HE ever learns a word of that very Torah he is so worried about.

Bottom line? Get used to these comments if you get your news from YWN.

  5. Studies have been done and the conclusion was that a two month draft whereupon most would go home (and into reserves)
followed by an all-volunteer regular IDF and IAF would indeed be more practical

The ‘Elite’ though prefer to keep the present system ,less

    today

    for ideology

    than simply for societal control

#4 “very easy to be religious in the army”
They do however speak from both sides of their mouths

nachal charedi are unable to be promoted to officer, as to be an officer one MUST train with women

‘women make up 34% of all soldiers, 57% of all officers and 92% of positions in the IDF are available for female soldiers – numbers unparalleled worldwide. Additionally, eight times the number of women on active duty serve in reserves and females at the rank of Colonel has grown by 100% in the past decade.

  6. It should unanimous that the chareidi attitude at present is once again foolish in the long run, whatever one ‘holds’ of the IDF and the draft – pro or con

START by pushing to lower 3-year draft stint to 2.5

something which would garner accolades and support all over the spectrum

Rather than making coalition deals just for kith and kin,
and giving fodder to their age-old antagonists –

a proverbial goose that just keeps laying golden eggs,

they ought to push for a collective easing of the draft for all
