Litzman Opposes the Head of the Israel Medical Association

litzmanDeputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman is opposed to the position of Dr. Leonard Edelman, who heads the Israel Medical Association.

Earlier this week the cabinet approved permitting authorities to force feed hunger-striking PA prisoners if medical experts determine the strike compels such action. The bill was presented by Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, who will now present it in Knesset for second and third readings. The bill passed its preliminary vote in Knesset in March.

Edelman issued a statement opposing the decision, calling on doctors to defy the law. Edelman and the IMA feel the bill is unethical and medically risky.

During a session of the Knesset Health Committee on Monday, 28 Sivan, Litzman blasted Edelman, citing it is unacceptable for such a senior member of Israel’s medical community to openly call on others to break the law. Litzman feels that Edelman’s statements “crossed a red line and this is dangerous”, explaining for someone of his stature to openly call to defy the law is a moral blow to law and order in Israel”.

  1. Well well
The Dt. Is right! The law is wrong! If they want to kill themselves we should NOT stop them!!!!

And to Litzman we say, we chareidim also say don’t keep the law when the law is outright wrong (and rightfully so). We say to our talmidim don’t go to the army….

  2. And like encouraging young men to defy and break the conscription laws by refusing to serve in the IDF is not “is a moral blow to law and order”. Litzman go look in a mirror before you open your mouth next time.

  3. This is the latest Israeli trend, individuals of renown either in the field of military, legal, politics, Rabbinics, health, etc… throw out an opinion to DEFY ISRAELI LAW!!!!

  4. #1: Litzman usually tells others to defy the “law” when the law is contrary to Torah law. But whart would you know about that?

  5. Shtoyois bemitz agvaniyois. The law doesn’t state that doctors must perform this. The doctors may legaly opt not to implement this law.
