Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu registered another success in his Likud party as he defeated a motion that would limit his authority as party leader. The challengers wished to give additional authority to the Central Committee.
The over 3,700 members of the Central Committee on Sunday, 27 Sivan were eligible to vote on the matter at hand, giving the authority for making the party Knesset lineup to the Central Committee, an authority presently in the hands of the party leader.
57.9% of eligible voters decided to leave this authority in the prime minister’s hands, another vote of support for the prime minister’s Likud leadership role.
Likud officials reported that 69% of eligible voters exercised their right to vote as voting stations opened at 11:00 around the country. 1,557 voters were in favor of the prime minister’s position while 1,040 opposed him, supporting the position of MK Dudi Amsellem who was hoping to give additional authority to the Central Committee, the political party’s governing body.
