As dawn breaks on the ninth day of the hunt for two killers, officials say the search is expanding eastward from the wooded area where they have mostly focused since the prison break in far northern New York.
Troopers say more than 800 officers have joined the massive manhunt south of Dannemora. State police stayed stationed overnight into Sunday at intervals in the search area.
State police say investigators will continue to search door-to-door and plan to expand the search further east.
Residents of the rural area are not accustomed to locking their doors, at night or otherwise, but they have been on edge since David Sweat and Richard Matt cut their way out of the prison.
On Friday, prison tailor shop worker Joyce Mitchell was charged with providing the escapees hacksaw blades, chisels, a punch and a screwdriver bit.

I think its time for the Keystone cops to go back to giving speeding tickets.
The Shomrim/Chaveirim of Boro Park/Flatbush would of found these 2 murderers already had they been given the chance. (Of course its only hypothetical as they are not armed.)
It seems strange that “big Government” can find an expired inspection sticker on a car & send you a summons from a thousand miles away, or if you used the “N” word in a private comment to your friend, or if someone “insulted” a Muslim, but they can’t find 2 hungry, exhausted dangerous criminals?! Something doesn’t add up. Seems like there is some cover-up going on.
When will the movie be coming out?
What losers, those dogs that are supposed to be protecting us. They’re as much a menace to society as the prisoners themselves. Hopefully they’ll build themselves a quiet life up in Canada, and we’ll never hear about them again. I can imagine the neighborhood feels threatened. I would also, if my neighborhood was crawling with the kind of scum that’s infesting theirs for the past week. At least they’re smart enough not to complain, at risk of “disappearing”.
