In light of a wave of break-ins in homes in yishuvim in the western sector of the Binyamin Regional Council in Shomron, Shai (Shomron-Yehuda) Police set up a special investigations team in cooperation with police intelligence and members of the IDF’s elite Duvdevan unit.

The Shai spokesman reported on Monday, 21 Sivan, that all advanced technological measures were deployed to apprehend those responsible for the break-ins. Two suspects have been taken into custody and additional arrests are expected in the case. Three suspects were arrested in the case last week and it appears all the suspects in custody belong to one burglary ring. All of the suspects in police custody reside in the PA (Palestinian Authority) village of Naalin.

It is added that during attempts to arrest some of the suspects they tried to run over and attack policemen. Israel Police Binyamin District Commander Deputy Superintendent Dudi Hayun stated the effort to apprehend the suspects was complicated and lasted a number of weeks. He added the investigation demanded a great deal of resources and cooperation between the Binyamin and Shai districts as well as other agencies.

Hayun added the break-ins led to a feeling of insecurity among residents and this compelled police to act with determination to bring apprehend those responsible as quickly as possible.
