BREAKING: U.S. Supreme Court Strikes Down Jerusalem Birthplace Law

Sukkos_5774-074The Supreme Court has struck down a disputed law that would have allowed Americans born in Jerusalem to list their birthplace as Israel on their U.S. passports. It’s an important ruling that underscores the president’s authority in foreign affairs.

The court ruled 6-3 Monday that Congress overstepped its bounds when it approved the law in 2002. It would have forced the State Department to alter its long-standing policy of not listing Israel as the birthplace for Jerusalem-born Americans.

The policy is part of the government’s refusal to recognize any nation’s sovereignty over Jerusalem, until Israelis and Palestinians resolve its status through negotiations.

The ruling ends a 12-year-old lawsuit by a Jerusalem-born American and his U.S. citizen parents.

  1. Big deal. It was nothing but a useless political statement.

If your passport says “Jerusalem” instead of “Jerusalem, Israel” you’ll survive and be healthy. In fact it may even be better leaving off the name of the zionist state.

  2. At least they aren’t insisting on it saying “Palestine”.

The fact is that the United States (and the rest of the world) has never recognized the 1949 cease fire line as a permanent national boundary, and considers all of Israel to be “up for discussion”. If the US recognized the 1949-1967 borders as permanent, there would be no problem in locating the American embassy in those parts of Jerusalem that were under Israeli control during that period. The reality is that while Israeli leftists talk of a peace solution based on the the 1949-1967 borders, the rest of the human race is willing to go back to the previous borders (under which there was no separate Jewish state). So much for the idea that the zionists have managed to create an internationally recognized state.

  3. this is why you cnat trust these political dirtbags who in order to suck up jewish loot make promises to move US embassy from TA to Jerusalem. It will NEVER EVER happen.

  4. As long as one recognizes his JEWISH identity (and of course keeps the Torah), whether the passport reads Jerusalem or Israel.

  5. What do you expect from those puppets? Want them to say the opposite of what the boss wants to hear? Just like Bratton and DeBozo in NYC. Bratton says what DeBozo tells him to say.

  6. Not a disgrace. The opinion has nothing to do with Jerusalem and everything to to with the Constitutional limits on congressional meddling on foreign affairs. When President George W. Bush signed the law he publicly announced that he would not obey it.

  7. “move US embassy from TA to Jerusalem. It will NEVER EVER happen.”

The US has a consulate in Jerusalem. Almost no other country has any diplomatic presence there. Show some gratitude.
