Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon has ordered the reopening of the Gaza crossings, which he ordered shut following motzei Shabbos rocket attacks from Gaza into southern Israel.
Rockets fell south of Ashkelon into the Gaza Coast Regional Council after Shabbos. B’chasdei Hashem the rockets landed in open fields and the attacks did not result in loss of life or causalities. Ya’alon ordered the closing of the Kerem Shalom and Erez Crossings to Gaza in addition to the IAF striking terrorist targets in Gaza during the night.
Ya’alon released a statement that Israel views the Hamas regime responsible for any and all rocket attacks into Israel from Gaza. A Salafist group affiliated with ISIS claimed responsibility for the motzei Shabbos rocket fire as well as rocket attacks last week.
IDF Southern District Commander Major-General Sami Turgeman in a meeting with leaders of Gaza border communities stated a few sporadic rocket attacks will not precipitate a new military operation against Hamas, adding the IDF will however respond appropriately.
