Gadi Yarkoni, 47, who was critically wounded by a rocket during Operation Protective Edge lost both legs as a result. Yarkoni was the last person wounded before the ceasefire went into effect.

After his discharge from the hospital and rehab, he decided to run for the post of head of the Eshkol Regional Council.

Yarkoni, who lives in Kibbutz Nirim took the council election with 51% of the vote as opposed to Uri Naamti (44%) and Ron Gutai (9%).

Following elections Yarkoni spoke of the three-month journey before the elections and now, entering office, he begins “the real journey”, to work for the communities and residents of the Eshkol Council.
