It appears that for some Yesh Atid MKs, being in opposition is not going well. As Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman announced he has ordered the fluorination of the nation’s water, former Education Minister (Yesh Atid) Shai Piron attacked the decision. Tweeting his anger to followers, Piron on Sunday, 13 Sivan stated “Litzman has no criteria for his decisions other than undoing the decisions made by Yael German”.
Litzman served in his post in the 18th Knesset. In the 19th Knesset he was replaced by German and today, in the 20th Knesset, Litzman is back in the post. German eliminated the fluorination program for she feels the government cannot introduce a drug into the nation’s water without asking residents if they want it.
Piron added “It’s a mazel that German did not open a shul in every hospital”, hinting Litzman would face a dilemma since he is reversing her decisions.
Litzman’s staff responds to the Tweeter messages explaining that German’s first decisions including cutting the dental health program initiated by Litzman to provide dental care for the nation’s children. They add “Litzman simply decided to go with the recommendations of the experts”.
Litzman told the media “The experts feel the fluorination of the water is a very important decision to benefit citizens of Israel maintaining healthier teeth”.

Litzman showed himself to be a poltical hack the last-time around and he only reinforces his reputation this time with his decision that is unsupported by any scientific body of evidence.
Much can be said for the American system of an independent executive, and cabinet members who are responsible to the President and not a party faction, and aren’t running for office – with a separate and independent legislature. The Israelis are a great argument for what the Americans are doing right.
Fuoridation is a proven (documnted for 40years+) method of reducing tooth decay and it is only crazy med-phobes that have caused it t be taken out of the water. To say Litzman is acting only to undo ther wrk of his predecessor is foolish. Sore losers!
akuperma: Like “we have to pass it so we can see what’s in it?”
In theory, you are right. Today’s reality tell a totally different story.
The biggest flaw in the Israeli system is the lack of direct accountability of Knesset Members to the public.
On the other hand, the Israeli voting public is far more aware than the brain dead average American voter who gets conned on issue after issue and knows more about nonsense entertainers than issues that really affect them.
