Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu insists that the future of Yerushalayim remains atop of his cabinet’s agenda. He told the press this week that the cabinet just approved a number of measures that will strengthen the holy city, adding that he is in contact with Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and the two maintain a good working relationship.
The prime minister met with the mayor earlier this week, at which time Mr. Netanyahu told the mayor that if and when there is a machlokes regarding Yerushalayim, he the mayor will have the final word.
The statement from the prime minister comes after he officially handed over authority for Jerusalem affairs to Minister Ze’ev Elkin, a position that was promised to Mayor Barkat prior to the Knesset elections.
