A Special Surprise for 10 Lone IDF Soldiers

idfTwenty IDF lone soldiers, serving far away from their families, were invited to a special ceremony to honor them on Wednesday 24 Iyar. To the surprise of the soldiers, their mothers were flown in to meet with them, some not having seen their mothers for three years. None of the soldiers were aware that the ceremony would include a hug from mom.

One soldier’s mother came from a small village in India. The family does not have a telephone. The IDF attaché to New Delhi traveled to the village on the border of Burma to meet with the family and make arrangements for mom to fly to Israel to surprise the young soldier, Shlomo Tutang. She traveled for three days by bus and then took three flights to get to Israel.

Shlomo had one request, to delay mom’s return flight for a number of days.

  1. I’ll give Israel credit; they’re good with public relations. Instead of the world hearing about a military regime with a mandatory draft rife with war crimes, they get to hear about this. It also encourages outsiders to enlist when they see that lone soldiers are cared about. Good move by them.

  2. Beautiful!!! No matter how chiloni one can be, a yiddish neshama and a yiddish hartz cannot be belittled. This was a beautiful deed on the armies part.

There is no abuse of taxpayers $$$$ (don’t u love commenters that know nothing about the system), there is a separate budget for Lone Soldiers almost completely funded by out of country donors!!!
