High Court Gives Backing to Jerusalem Day Flag March Route

Thousands take part in Jerusalem Day celebrationsThe Supreme Court on Monday, 22 Iyar, rejected petitions from left-wing organizations challenging the Flag Parade route on Yom Yerushalayim because it passes through the so-called Muslim Quarter of the Old City.

The justices used the court hearing to criticize police for failing to file charges against parade participants in the past who shouted hate slogans at Arabs as they pass them. Justice Elyakim Rubinstein stressed that such shouts are not freedom of speech but rather freedom of incitement.

Justice Yitzchak Amit added that shouts such as “death to Arabs” are a Chilul Hashem and the time has come to display zero tolerance to such hateful epithets.

In response to the effort to limit the parade, Efrat Mayor Oded Ravivi calls on the thousands of families in his community to make a point of turning out for this year’s parade.
