Hikind: Plant A tree In Your Local POTHOLE!

DOV-HIKIND“If the city isn’t going to fix the potholes, we might as well make the best of it,” quipped Assemblyman Hikind (D-Brooklyn) who is suggesting, if somewhat satirically, a “pothole beautification program” designed to make the best of a bad situation.

“Not only is the snow long gone, we’re just a few weeks from Memorial Day, but there’s still potholes all over the city,” said Hikind. “These conditions are deplorable. They endanger the lives and vehicles of everyone who drives over them or is forced to swerve around them. I know that the Department of Transportation has been filling them in here and there but how long will it take to finish the job? The City is responsible for making certain that the lives of New Yorkers are protected. Let the City bring in more resources as needed.”

In the meantime, Hikind says it’s time for a grass roots response, or at least a tree roots response.

“Next week, we will invite the public to a tree-planting ceremony and plant a small sapling in one of the more dangerous craters in the middle of a busy street,” he said. “Minimally, people will know where that pothole is so they won’t accidentally drive into it.”

  1. Great idea! Perhaps we should also name the parks after the planters? Bloomberg would love to do this! At least he’s not in power, he would take out all the roads, leave the potholes, fill them with mini parks and call them beautification! Then he would take his chopper and hop over them when he wants to go to the restaurant.

  2. Why does he burn the candle on both ends? This is a city issue NOT a state issue. Perhaps he should spend more time in Israel, errrrrrr i mean Albany!

  3. Mark: you are right. But he wants to be in the news and this is one way to do it, till people will get fed up with him and he wont have what to go to albany for.
