The Jewish community, the most philanthropic in the US, is now raising the bar on successful crowdfunding to the tune of $4M in 24 hours. Organizers of the first joint online Jewish giving day, MillionforOutreach that saw the community raise $1.36M in 24 hours are set to help raise $4M for Jewish Chesed organizations in a MillionsforChesed Giving Day, June 2.
“What I saw by the Outreach Giving Day was amazing. I never would have believed it had I not seen it,” shares entrepreneur and philanthropist, Mr. Nechemia Weinreb. “Ahavas Yisrael of Baltimore is actually scheduling this instead of a dinner, and our major donors are thrilled and giving more. They’re excited about how the crowdfunding will make it so much easier to reach the community in just 24 hours to bring in at least a quarter of our $500,000 goal. By multiple organizations working together, we can bring in many more people to raise a multi-million dollar goal for Jewish communities anywhere.”
Tuesday, May 5th, the highest-grossing national Giving Day: Give Local America aims to raise $63M for 8000 participating organizations throughout the U.S. This is approximately $7900 average per organization. MillionforOutreach’s average total per organization was $70,000, with only 19 organizations participating. Unlike other Giving Days, MillionforOutreach and MillionsforChesed are all or nothing, and organizations must bring in major philanthropic support in advance to effectively quadruple all donations and super-fuel all levels of giving.
Our community has yet to take advantage of these new opportunities en masse, but organizers hope that with each success, more Jewish donors and organizations will have the confidence to try this new online community-powered crowdfunding to reap the benefits for their operations and communities.
“After MillionforOutreach, all of the participating organizations and I were floating. We could not believe it,” shared Rabbi Yitzchok Lowenbraun, National Director of AJOP (Association for Jewish Outreach Professionals). “Major supporters from our campaign requested that we and Charidy.com help replicate this success for Chesed organizations, and we all gladly agreed.”
The upcoming MillionsforChesed Giving Day is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2. The current combined target goal of participating organizations is $4M. Jewish Chesed organizations that help Jews in our community in times of financial or medical need are eligible to participate (Tomchei Shabboses, Bikkur Cholims), but the final deadline to sign up is Wednesday, May 6.
