The Chief Rabbinate Council has approved Rabbi Shlomo Ben-Ezra as acting Chief Rabbi of Beit Shemesh. He will be responsible for marriages and kashrus in the city. The vote was conducted by phone on Tuesday, 16 Iyar.
Many residents of the city and Yahadut Hatorah objected to the appointment of Rabbi Ben-Ezra fearing his temporary appointment will become permanent. Rabbi Ben-Ezra assured the Chief Rabbinate Council he will not run for the permanent post, resulting in agreement between City Hall and Rabbi Ben-Ezra.
Shas has been working to oust the long-time Chief Rabbi of Beit Shemesh, Rabbi Shimon Biton Shlita, 80, who has been serving for decades. He is very popular among city residents and officials, but Shas used a 1975 law setting an age ceiling of 80 to oust him from the post.

The ashkenazim have bent over backwards and invariably suffered their reputation due to the unscrupulousness of Shas. They accepted it as their lot ,as they took it as part their responsibility to the religious sephardim.
Shas ,unfortunately for us,wishes make to make the avg. citizen revile them and thereby snatch ‘defeat from the jaws of victory’
But,if Shas seeks to continue its corrupt nepotic Rabbinate system instead of concern about the public good and about halacha , then they should finally be shirked off like the albatross they are.
No kovod for talmidei chachomim, zekeinim or klal Yisrael. Only can make horse sale type deals to further their own members.simply terrible in all ways.we need true Torah representatives not this unending list of chilul Hashem
are shas chareidim at all or just dress like it and do some mitzvos they like?
