Ziv Hospital in Tzfas has been ordered to pay a total of 2 million NIS to 56 former patients that underwent abdominal reduction surgery in the hospital. Each will receive about 30,000 NIS.

They patients claim that many of them were used to be a part of a clinical trial without consenting. A biopsy was taken from their liver during the operation. They only learned the biopsy was done following the abdominal reduction surgery.

Other told the court they were asked to agree to the biopsy moments before being put under anesthesia and they were in a position they could not refuse.

The surgeries were performed in the past years. The case was filed in the court system over a year ago.
