It is now being reported that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will on Monday, 2 Rosh Chodesh Iyar, meet with President Reuven Rivlin in the President’s Residence during the morning hours. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Prime Minister will request an extension of the time allocated to him to form the new governing coalition following last month’s election.
At 10:00am, the president and the prime minister will deliver a brief public statement in the Presidential Lounge.
09:30 – The President and Prime Minister will hold a working meeting in the President’s office.
Article 8 of Basic Law: The Government states “The Knesset Member to whom the President has assigned the task of forming a Government under section 7 shall have a period of 28 days for the fulfilment of such task. The President of the State may extend the period by additional periods not exceeding in the aggregate 14 days.”

What does the law state if at the end of the extended allotted time he still can’t succeed in the formation?
#1 The President then offers the opportunity to the head of a different party.
It almost happened in 1984.
But then the two leading parties agreed to a Unity Gov’t of 85 seats.
