More than 5 Orthodox Jewish homes have been burglarized the past few days in Far Rockaway, and police and Shomrim are stepping up patrols. The Rockaway Citizens Safety Patrol (Shomrim) tell YWN that the burglaries are happening during the day.

In one incident, close to $10,000 of jewelry was stolen from a home on Beach 12th Street.

Due to the rash of daytime home burglaries, the RNSP is stepping up daytime patrols.

Shomrim has the following tips for residents:

Make sure all your windows and doors are locked whenever you leave your home.
If you have an alarm system, turn it on.
Make sure your cameras are working properly and recording (properly working cameras are the best way to catch any perpetrator after a crime).

Shomrim reminds everyone that if you are a victim of such a crime, make sure you and your children do not touch anything in your home. If you do, the police will have a very difficult time pulling finger prints and doing their job properly. Also you must call 911 and the RNSP 24/7 Hotline number immediately 917-727-7306.
