Service on the number 7 subway line is suspended in both directions between Queensboro Plaza and Times Square after a mechanical problem.
Approximately 1,500 straphangers are aboard the line, according to the FDNY.
Passengers have been stuck since about 8:30 a.m. after a part of a brake came in contact with the third rail causing a smoke condition, said FDNY officials.
A rescue train is on its way to push the train to Grand Central.
