The body of HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Halevy Wosner ZT”L arrived in Beis Medrash Chachmei Lubin a short time ago on motzei Shabbos and motzei first day of Pesach as talmidim are present, reciting Tehillim.
Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yosef Shlita released a psak Halacha that despite being Chol Hamoed, talmidim should take part in the levaya.
The levaya will being at 23:00 in the beis medrash. Sons of the Torah giant will speak and from there the procession will head out to the Zichron Meir Cemetery in Bnei Brak. Tens of thousands are expected to be on hand for the levaya.
The Shas Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael released a message upon hearing of the petira shortly after the beginning of Shabbos and the first day of Pesach in Eretz Yisrael. The Shas-affiliated rabbonim pointed out the close connection that was maintained between the niftar and Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L.
The rav was niftar not long after candle lighting on erev Shabbos, at 19:32. There were some 50 people around him at the time. On Shabbos morning family members consulted with HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita regarding the levaya, and it was decided that it is to be held on motzei Shabbos.
A son, Rav Yosef, who lives in Boro Park, was notified by a goy from Mayanei HaYeshua Hospital of this father’s petira and he was able to sit shiva in NYC before beginning Shabbos and Yomtov. Son Rav Bentzion was only notified of his father’s petira on motzei Shabbos as he was seen in his Beit Shemesh shul on Friday night, unaware of his personal loss and that of Klall Yisrael
Magen David Adom has set up a command center for the levaya. Police are setting up, announcing many Bnei Brak area streets will be closed to accommodate the levaya.
