A senior officer in the IDF Homefront Command who spoke with military correspondents on Tuesday, 11 Nissan warned in the next round of warfare between Israel and Hizbullah, Israel must expect between 1,000-1,500 missiles fired into Israel daily along with hundreds of civilian deaths.
These alarming figures are based on the IDF’s latest assessment of the situation regarding Hizbullah. The new information adds that 27% of citizens do not have protection in the event of renewed warfare. It is added that in Operation Protective Edge citizens became accustomed to a high level of protection due to the success of the Iron Dome rocket intercept system. The source warns that in warfare with Hizbullah, the situation will be different.
For one thing, the number of defense missile batteries is limited. It is up to the government to make the final decision as to where the defense systems are deployed.
On Tuesday, IDF Homefront Commander Major-General Eyal Eisenberg stepped down from his post. He is heading to retirement following 34 years in the military. Eisenberg is replaced by Major-General Yoel Strick.
