A Belgian insurance company refused to insure a European Jewish Association-run Jewish kindergarten in Brussels, amid the continuing rise of anti-Semitic attacks and threats on Jewish institutions across Europe, after claiming that the risk of a terror attack on the institution is too high.
Following the refusal of the insurance company, EJA General Director Rabbi Menachem Margolin called upon all European Governments and the heads of the EU institutions to provide security arrangements for all Jewish institutions that will satisfy insurance companies, and establish an alternative insurance mechanism that would secure any institution which may fall victim to anti-Semitic attacks.
“It is truly a scandal,” said Rabbi Margolin. “First and foremost, not enough is being done in order to secure Jewish institutions throughout Europe – despite our repeated requests and warnings – and then insurance companies are using the security situation as an excuse in order not to insurance kindergartens. This is the bizarre and cynical reality facing Jewish communities across Europe,” he concluded.

This seems like a reasonable thing to do. Insurance companies don’t insure people against risks that are likely to happen (ever notice that health insurance companies hate to insure young frum families against the possibility of having babies – and try getting a life insurance company to sell insurance to a sickly old person).
I’m sure they’ll insure the schools as long as there is an exclusion for terrorist attacks. I believe in the US the Federal government has to help underwrite terrorism insurance. If an insurance sold terrorism insurance to a Jewish school in Europe, the shareholders would think that was a scandal.
As opposed to before the Holocaust, when they took Jews’ money, and then refused to pay afterwards. We lose either way.
Europe is an anti-semitic wasteland soaked up in Jewish blood up to the knees. It’s time for European Jews to move to the United States.
