New York state lawmakers are preparing to cast votes on key education and ethics provisions in the state budget ahead of a critical deadline.
The Assembly and Senate plan to cast their final votes on the spending plan after what’s likely to be a long debate Tuesday.
Wednesday is the start of a new fiscal year. Gov. Andrew Cuomo and lawmakers hope to make this budget the fifth one in a row that’s passed on-time.
Lawmakers began votes on the less contentious provisions in the budget on Monday. On Tuesday they plan to take up education funding, as well as potential changes to teacher evaluations. They also plan to vote on a proposal to require lawmakers to disclose their outside income and big legal clients.
